John Marshall WHITE, the father of Will E. White who has been seriously ill with pneumonia died on Tuesday afternoon at his home in Alamo. Funeral services yesterday afternoon were in charge of Rev. Sam Smith of Ladoga and Rev. John Servies of Crawfordsville. Burial in Alamo Cemetery. The Waveland school was dismissed at noon so the teachers could attend. He was born Dec 22, 1838 at Covington. He was the son of William and Elizabeth White. He first married Irene b. WIRT Sept 1, 1859 and afterwards Emma HIATT Feb 28, 1895. He is survived by the wife and 3 sons: Will E. White of this place; Alonzo White of Braden Castle, Fla; and Jesse H. White of Bloomington. - transcribed by kbz

Alamo, Mar 5 — John Marshall White, 96, pioneer resident of western Indiana, expired following a short illness with pneumonia at 3:15 o'clock this afternoon at his home in Alamo. He had been ill since Feb 27. Mr. White was born Dec 22, 1838 at Covington ,Ind., the son of William Bloomer and Elizabeth Isabel White. He was first married to Irene B. Wirt* on Sept 1, 1859 and second to Emma Hatt on Feb 28, 1895. He was a prominent member of the Alamo Christian church. Mr White was one of the pioneers in this section of the state. In Mar 1907, he purchased and moved to the present White residence in Alamo. Previously to that time he resided on his 200 acre farm located two miles southwest of this place. He was widely known throughout Montgomery and adjoining counties and was recognized with respect by all who knew him. He is survived by the widow, three** sons, Will E. White, of Waveland; Alonzo White, of Braden Castle, Fl., and Dr. James H. White, of Bloomington. Private funeral services will be conducted for the relatives and immediate friends at 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon. A public service will then be conducted at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Alamo Christian church. The rites will be in charge of the Rev S. G. Smith, of Ladoga, and the Rev. John Servies of Crawfordsville. Interment will be in the Alamo cemetery.

"Rena" Wirt was the Daughter of David and Rebecca (Balser) Wirt; this should probably be cross referenced with the name Wert because David is a son of Elnathan Wert. ** John Marshall White and Rena Wert White had 5 sons total, but two sons, Edgar White and Aaron White, died between the ages of 4 and 5.
